Current job openings
Short description
We are looking for students wishing to become research assistants for our project in the area of Internet of Things (IoT) (m/f/x). In our project, we develop concepts and prototypes to enhance the model-driven approach of IoT application development. We specifically focus on the increase of reliability of model-driven IoT applications in terms of failures resulting by e.g. faulty sensor values or crashing devices. This includes concepts to detect such failures and integrate methods to cope with them into the model-driven process for IoT application development.
Your tasks
- Implementation of prototypes to develop, monitor and optimize model-driven IoT applications.
- Exploration and assessment of existing IoT and Web technologies for model-driven IoT applications.
- Collaboration with other students and the project leader in the editing of concepts for scientific texts and presentations.
Reasons for you to apply
- Cooperation with an industry partner in Germany.
- Research in the field of model-driven IoT applications, with innovative concepts, flexible working hours and one-to-one mentoring and supervision.
- Available infrastructure to carry out experiments on IoT environments (Private Cloud, Raspberry Pis and Arduinos).
- It is possible to derive topics for student projects or a bachelor or master thesis which build upon the previous work during the HiWi job.
Requirements
- Development skills in IoT and Web technologies (Python, JavaScript and Java).
- Practical knowledge and understanding of Web Applications (Frontend and Backend), IoT Applications and Databases.
- Interest in industrial applications (experience in previous study or work projects is not required, but desired).
- Highly-communicative, autonomous and creative.
Application
We are looking forward to your application with resume and transcript of records. Please send the documents to Daniel Del Gaudio.
Application deadline
We are looking for candidates to work for a minimum of three months until the end of June 2022. It is possible and desired to extend those three months.
New positions may start at the beginning of February 2022. Please apply at least one month before the beginning of your intended start month.

Your Profile
- Are you looking for an exciting challenge in the field of data science/machine learning (ML)?
- Are you interested in working with data and identifying challenges in the data?
- You are interested in developing ML approaches to address specific challenges in the data?
- You already have basic knowledge of common ML techniques, such as clustering and classification?
- You are interested in state-of-the-art approaches in ML, such as AutoML?
- You like to bring in new ideas and creative solutions?
- You have good programming skills in Python (or a similar programming language) and already have experience with libraries like Numpy, Sklearn, or Pandas?
Short description
In the context of a project we are looking for motivated students (m/f/x) to support us in the implementation and evaluation of ML approaches. The project takes place in cooperation with an industrial partner from Germany. We are investigating which challenges in data analysis typically occur in industrial use cases and how these can be specifically addressed. Among other things, we investigate how domain knowledge of the industrial partner can be used to address such challenges already before the actual analysis, i.e., in the data preparation, so that the subsequent analysis delivers more meaningful results.
Your tasks
- Literature research around ML, i.e., especially clustering, classification, challenges for data analyses, and AutoML.
- Development and implementation of ML concepts.
- Evaluation of the implemented concepts.
- Collaboration with other students and the project leader in preparing the concepts for scientific texts and presentations.
Reasons for you to apply
- Cooperation with an industry partner in Germany.
- Research in the field of Machine Learning and Data Science.
- Flexible working hours and one-to-one mentoring and supervision.
- Available infrastructure to carry out experiments.
- It is possible to derive topics for student projects or a bachelor or master thesis which build upon the previous work during the HiWi job.
Requirements
- Programming experience in Python, Java, or a comparable programming language.
- Basic knowledge of ML techniques, e.g., clustering and classification.
- Interest in working with data and implementing and evaluating ML techniques.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and creatively.
Application
We are looking forward to your application with your resume and a current transcript of grades. Please send the documents to Dennis Tschechlov.
Application deadline
