Announcing the launch of our SLEEPMUSIC project, which will measure the effects of music on brain activity during sleep
We are happy to announce the launch of the SLEEPMUSIC project, which aims to use lightweight hardware for the recording of brain activity during sleep, such as electroencephalography (EEG). Different types of music will be played to participants throughout the night within the comfort of their own homes, allowing researchers to identify the relationship between musical features and sleep quality, and to personalise the selection of music based on individual preferences. This project was made possible due to support from the DFG through Terra Incognita, a funding programme internal to the University of Stuttgart which aims to encourage pioneering research projects and to foster new interdisciplinary connections. The project will hence involve collaborations with institutes based in Denmark, the Netherlands and Spain, and will link the SC department to researchers from fields such as neuroscience, psychology and music informatics.
