Research Focus SGS

The group 'Simulation of Large Systems' focusses on challenges at the edge between numerical mathematics and computer sciences in order to enable large scale scientific computing applications on massively parallel systems. Particular application fields are fluid dynamics simulations, coupled multiphysics problems, high-dimensional problems such as data mining, time series predictions, and uncertainty quantification. Methods used range from efficient parallel multilevel solvers for large systems of equations over octree-like computational grids, dynamical grid adaptivity, communication reducing and asynchronous iterative solvers, sparse grids, and dynamical load balancing to reduced order modelling.
