Brief Description
The department Image Understanding of the Institute of Parallele and Distributed Systems at the University of Stuttgart is dealing with cooperative robotics since many years. In 1998, the CoPS-Team (Cooperative Soccer Playing Robots Stuttgart) was founded. It was renamed in 2009 to 1. RFC (Robot Soccer Club) Stuttgart. The aim of the CoPS-Team is to participate at the annual RoboCup World Championships for soccer playing robots. The main goal of the Robot World Cup Initiative (RoboCup) is, to improve and advance the research in the field of artificial intelligence and autonomous mobile systems through competitions. Hereby, different concepts and approaches are compared in a clearly defined and challenging but not too complex, highly dynamic environment. The RoboCup competitions are carried out in several leagues using simulations as well as real robotic systems. The CoPS-Team participates in the so called Middle Size League.
The 1. RFC Stuttgart was more than successful during the past years what is represented by the rankings achieved in different RoboCup tournaments:
